From 7-9pm on Sept 29th, the editors of Mixed Race Queer and Feminist Zine will celebrate the debut of the finished 2nd edition - "What Brings You to the Table?" - via a free Launch Party at Alchemy Cafe in Oakland! There is *very* limited seating, so plan to get there by 6:30pm! (accessibility notes below)
This 2nd issue of Mixed Up! focuses on the ways mixed-race, queer people relate to food, the recipes of their heritage, memories of family meals or lack thereof. We received many interesting submissions, and the party will feature live readings from + discussion with a few of our local, Bay Area contributing artists! Bring cash cuz we'll be passing a hat to give back to our performers.
Spaces for folx of mixed heritage to talk about our varied, underrepresented experiences are rare, and even more so the more intersections mixed-race folx embody. We seek to change that by compiling and elevating more voices in print and live creative, healing, community gatherings.
There will be color + b&w copies of the zine for sale (CASH ONLY, $3-15 sliding). And we're opening space for other zine authors to sell their work (priority goes to lgbtqia / poc / crip zinesters)! If interested, email firstname.lastname@example.org. Alsoooo if you are interested in helping out with the event by volunteering, email email@example.com. More updates coming soon...
Love your Mixed Up editors,
Caro, Christina + Emiliano
